The AC-DD0506FDMU-DRY dry carbon doors for the 2005-2009 Ford Mustang represent one of the highest-impact weight reduction upgrades available for this platform, built with the same pre-preg autoclave process used in Formula 1, aerospace, and elite endurance motorsport, achieving up to 70% weight savings. Built from pre-preg 3K 2×2 twill carbon fiber, autoclave-cured via a pre-preg layup cured in an autoclave under extreme heat and pressure, doors are among the heaviest body panels on any vehicle, replacing the factory steel units with the AC-DD0506FDMU-DRY saves up to 70% of high-mounted, body-side mass that directly improves handling response, turn-in, and overall power-to-weight ratio. These doors bolt to the factory hinges using OEM hardware and maintain full compatibility with factory latch, lock, and glass systems.

Key Features

  • Material: pre-preg 3K 2×2 twill carbon fiber, autoclave-cured, pre-preg layup cured in an autoclave under extreme heat and pressure.
  • Finish: matte dry carbon surface, resin pre-impregnated directly into the fiber structure, no additional clear coat required.
  • Weight savings: up to 70% per door vs. OEM steel.
  • Pre-impregnated resin fully bonded into the fiber structure under autoclave pressure for maximum density and stiffness.
  • Bolt-on installation using OEM hinge hardware.
  • Anderson Composites dry carbon door shells (AC-DD0506FDMU-DRY).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these doors require any modification to the vehicle body?
No. These door shells are precision-molded for exact OEM fitment and bolt to the factory hinges using the existing hardware. Minor gap adjustments are normal during final fitment, but no structural body modification is required.

Are factory windows, glass, and interior door cards compatible?
Yes. The door shells are designed to accept the OEM window glass, regulator, latch, and lock mechanisms. Interior door panels and cards transfer directly from the factory doors.

What is the weight difference vs. factory steel doors?
Anderson Composites dry carbon construction saves up to 70% per door versus the OEM steel unit. Doors are among the heaviest individual body panels on most vehicles, at 25 to 50 pounds per factory door, replacing all four with carbon delivers a substantial total weight reduction with direct benefits to handling dynamics, acceleration, and braking balance.

Do carbon fiber doors require door bars or roll cage reinforcement?
For street use, no additional roll cage or door bar reinforcement is required by the doors themselves. For sanctioned track or competition use, check with your series rules regarding door construction requirements. Carbon fiber doors remove the side-impact beam structure that OEM steel doors provide, which is an important consideration for any track or competition application.

Installation Instructions

  1. Remove the interior door panel, door card, vapor barrier, and any wiring harnesses
  2. Disconnect window regulator, latch mechanism, and lock actuator from the OEM door shell
  3. With a partner, support the door and remove hinge bolts to separate the door from the body
  4. Transfer all hardware, hinges, latch, lock, regulator, and glass, to the new AC-DD0506FDMU-DRY shell
  5. With a partner, install the new door onto the factory hinges without fully tightening
  6. Adjust hinge position for even gaps on all four sides (top, bottom, front, rear)
  7. Tighten hinge bolts to factory torque specification
  8. Reconnect all wiring, verify window and lock function, and reinstall interior panels
